Barnet based social enterprise Bread n Butter CIC have been awarded an Urban Food Award run by the Mayor of London and the London Food Link. The Community Interest Company set up in September 2018 attended an invitation only ceremony held at City Hall on Wednesday 20 March where they were awarded the accolade ‘Super Social Enterprise’ for 2019.

 

In January 2019 Bread n Butter launched ‘Waste Warriors’, an innovative sustainability workshop aimed at primary school children. The 5 week programme funded by North London Waste Author- ity (NLWA) under the Community Fund project, has been teaching key stage 2 children in Barnet and Enfield schools about recycling, food waste and living more sustainably. Since the start of this year, the Community Interest Company have also been running a cooking club at a youth club in Grahame Park Estate in Colindale, teaching teenagers basic cooking skills.

Natasha Walter, Founder and Director of Bread n Butter said ‘We are so grateful for this award it means a lot to us to be recognised so early on in our journey as a new social enterprise. It’s great to be part of such a vibrant food scene in our wonderful city there are so many organisations doing amazing things for the good of their community. We are really looking forward to growing our team and delivering more and more workshops teaching the community healthy independent sustain- able living. Watch this space! Bread n Butter is a social enterprise teaching the community how to eat healthy, cook from scratch and live sustainably. Bread n Butter is run by Barnet residents, founders Natasha Walter, Vicki Williams and Filomena Komodromou.
